Tracking your Savings and Spending

The System, Step 4- Tracking

I love to run a tight ship when it comes to budgeting. I want to be sure that I do not go over my grocery budget and if I do I will usually mourn and grieve with sincere guilt! I know I  have issues but my point is: I HAVE to make sure I actually am saving money, so I track what I spend and save. I have included this step as part of The System because I think it is really important that You too know what you are spending and saving.

Here is a short video showing you how to input the info on the tracking sheet from the Excel workbook found here if you still need it.

If you just want to track something by hand here is a PDF document you can download and use.

You can look at this example of how to fill this out. Click on it to see a bigger picture. If you have questions you can email me.

Here is a comment from one of the posts that I though went perfectly with today’s post.

Here is something I do during the PreShop phase. When I look through the ads for the sale prices of things I normally use, I know if something is a good deal because I have a “base price” for most food items our family uses. My base price is usually the lowest sale price I can regularly purchase that item for. For example, if spaghetti sauce is on sale for $1.25, and my base price is .99; I know that that’s not a good sale for me. -Cindy

  1. Thanks so much for doing all this. I have been trying to use coupons more, but have been struggling. I am going to try this new way. I live in the midwest and was wondering if there was any help for us out here(like lists made, or coupons with stores lists to get the best price, ect.). Also, I was wondering if the coupons that you can print from group A and group B are nationwide coupons and if I can use them out here. If you just want to e-mail me or I will check back on these comments that would be great. Thanks so much. I REALLY appreciate this.

  2. Becca,

The Group A and Group B coupons are national so feel free to use them in your area. I am not sure what is available in your area. To get some help from others where you live you may want to check out the Forum on The Fun With Food Storage Network.
